Description / Synopsis
Artist's note: "'The Salmon Child' is a genderless character. It is partially inspired by Cree artist Kent Monkman’s alter ego “Miss Chief Eagle Testicle” as well as my own thoughts and experiences concerning gender. I created “The Salmon Child” to be genderless so that the viewer could project on to the character whatever fears, frustrations, or other emotions the viewer might have concerning gender. Whether the viewer may be frustrated over gender inequalities in the workplace, questioning whether they were born in the right body, or simply think it is strange that “pink is only for girls and blue is only for boys”. “The Salmon Child” is a chance for the viewer to reflect on their perception and society’s perception of gender without fear or judgement in the way a child would." --Provided by artist |
