[Transcribed by telephone with artist: July 11, 2022] The rendition was inspired by "Painted Square Box" by person "Unknown," [cataloguer's note] found in the book 'Northwest Coast Indian Art: an analysis of form' (circa 2015) — made in the 1800's. It was chosen because it was different. The acrylic paint was used to replicate the original colors -- Traditionally, the colors would been made from natural materials: red (mixture of berries and eggs), black (ash) and white ([type of stone]) "I enjoyed the rendition and it often made me wonder how the natives back in the day combined the 7 pieces to makes animals" In reference to the rendition.
