Your place in these courses will ONLY be held by pre-registration and payment of the fee. SHIFTY COURSES - The course content is straight but the scheduling is flexible to allow shift workers to participate. Watch for courses that show both day and evening classes. You may attend the day sessions when you are working evenings and then change to evening sessions when you are working days. S-3 COUNSELLING - A College Counsellor visits Smithers twice each month and is available to both secondary students and adults to discuss any questions regarding further education or career plans. SMITHERS ROTARY ANNS BURSARY A fund of $400.00 was established in 1980 by the Smithers Rotary Anns to assist full-time or part-time mature women students. This bursary is available again this year. Preference will be given to single parents who require financial assistance for child care and/or transportation expenses to attend courses offered in Smithers. Application deadline: October 15, 1981. Forms may be picked up at the College Centre. LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE - Library and resource materials are catalogued at the Smithers College Centre. The Learning Resource Centre is open to students and instructors of Northwest Community College. Reference materials, to include audio-visual equipment located at the College, may be used only at the Centre. Contact your local College Centre for more information.· HIGH SCHOOL CORRESPONDENCE COURSES - Sponsored through Ministry of Education, courses in Grades One to Twelve and some vocational courses. Students pace their own work, but should schedule regular studying time. Cost: $25.00 per academic course. HEALTH PROGRAMS In 1975 a Health Advisory Committee was formed to advise the College on the continuing education needs of health workers in the northwest region. In 1980 the mandate of this committee was expanded to advise the College on the continuing education needs of health and human service workers. This committee also advises on the provision of general interest health care programs for the public. The College employs a Program Co-ordinator who works closely with this committee to develop programs throughout the College region as needs demand. INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF DISABLED PERSONS The United Nations has declared 1981 as the International Year of Disabled Persons. Northwest Community College has worked in the past to make its facilities and programs accessible to disabled persons. This effort resulted in the formation of a local resource committee for the disabled, chaired by Vernon Chase. HEALTH PROGRAMS In 1975 a Health Advisory Committee was formed to advise the College on the continuing education needs of health workers in the northwest region. In 1980 the mandate of this committee was expanded to advise the _ College on the continuing education needs of health and human service workers. This committee also advises on the provision of general interest health care programs for the public.
